Barrister Visits the Academy

On Friday, 8th October we, along with Year 10 students, were very fortunate to welcome James Lewis-Bale into the Academy.   James is a Barrister at Devon Chambers in Exeter and had come to give students an insight in what it is like to have a career at the Bar.

The visit was part of an Outreach Programme called ‘BarNone’ which is committed to promoting access to the profession. Their aim is simple, they wish to encourage applications from individuals from state schools.  If you would like more information on BarNone please visit: , LinkedIn (@BarNone) and on Twitter (@BarNone2020).

James gave the students a very interesting and informative presentation with subjects such as the differences between a Barrister and a Solicitor and the different paths you can follow to become a Barrister.  He also showed the students what the dress code was for his work in the High Courts: he told them the wig was very itchy!!

The students really enjoyed his visit, we will definitely invite him in again next year!
